Honorable Senators,

We have a 16 year old daughter who was born with a life threatening heart condition. Becca is a sophomore in high school. She is an excellent student who has a passion for her English, Biology and Drama classes.  She is proficient in Sign Language.  She has had 4 heart surgeries, 17 heart catherizations, and placement of a pacemaker defibrillator. She takes 40 pills a day and sleeps with oxygen at night. Becca’s dream is to become a nurse.  She needs to be alive to be able to accomplish her dream.

We URGE YOU TO OPPOSE ANY CUTS IN HEALTH CARE FUNDING THAT WOULD NEGATIVELY IMPACT ACCCHS/MEDICIAD, CHILDREN’S REHABILITATIVE SERVICES and  DISPORPORTIONATE SHARE (DISH) FUNDING.

Our daughter’s and many other children’s survival literally depend on continuing their established medical treatment.  Budget cuts in these areas have life and death consequences. Please vote with this in mind.

Thank you for you attention to this very important matter.

With Hope,
Bob and Chris Atherton

To whom it may concern;

My name is James Molina, as a kid I was a product of the child welfare system......I now work in that field. It is very heartbreaking to see what is happening regarding our youth of AZ. Please read:

State Department of Economic Security is slashing services for the most defenseless Arizonans." Despite "serious shortcomings in Child Protective Services," child caseworkers must take nine days off "and 620 workers will be laid off, mostly from CPS." There will be reduced investigations of child‑risk reports, and reduce or eliminated in‑home services. With the cuts, the current "nightmare scenario will be radically worsened" and "will result in a tidal wave of uninvestigated abuse and neglect cases, putting more children's lives at risk." DES "must cut 11 percent, even as prisons trim just 2 percent," and "The state's priorities are skewed if leaders put at‑risk children's needs below those of our prison population."

I understand the state needs to make cuts…however this is doing no justice for the future of AZ and the youth. Is this really the way the State is going to handle this situation?? Is there anything anyone can do stop this…taking from the children of tomorrow isn't the answer!! In the long run I feel this will hurt the state. There has to be something we can do…………??

Respectfully Submitted,

James D. Molina
